Q:Why are silicon steel sheets used as the core of 11kv 1000 kva on load tap change power transformers?

A:The common transformer cores are usually made of silicon steel sheets. Silicon steel is a type of steel containing silicon, with the silicon content ranging from 0.8% to 4.8%. Using silicon steel as the core of a transformer is because silicon steel itself is a highly magnetic material. In an energized coil, it can generate a large magnetic induction intensity, thereby reducing the volume of the transformer.

We know that in reality, the 11kv 1000 kva on load tap change power transformer operates under an alternating current condition. Power loss not only occurs in the coil's resistance but is also present in the iron core due to the alternating electromagnetic influence.
