A: Dry type transformer is a power transformer in which the core and windings are not immersed in any liquid insulation material. Instead, insulation and heat dissipation are achieved entirely through air or other dry dielectric media to make it a critical substation component with exceptional fire safety performance.
Dry type transformers operates on the principle of electromagnetic induction: alternating current flowing through the primary winding generates a varying magnetic flux, which induces a voltage in the secondary winding to step up or step down electrical energy. No insulating oil is involved at any stage, of which the cooling is accomplished solely through natural air cooling or forced air cooling.
