A 1600 amp 3 pole mccb with auxiliary contacts uses a molded insulating case to separate live conductors from grounded metal parts. Inside the device, protection is mainly achieved through thermal and magnetic mechanisms. Under overload conditions, a bimetal element in the thermal unit heats up and bends as the current exceeds the rated limit.
